Admission requirements

Right Holder

A child may enroll at a school in the Conseil scolaire francophone de la C.‑B. if their parent(s) or guardian(s) meet either of the following two criteria :

1. CHILDREN WHOSE PARENTS ARE CANADIAN CITIZENS

Children of Canadian citizens with a Francophone background, and of those whose parents or guardians are Canadian citizens who meet the criteria in section 23 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, are automatically eligible to enroll at a CSF school.

Section 23 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees Canadian citizens living in B.C. the right to have their children educated in a Francophone education program if :

  • their first language learned and still understood is French, or ;
  • they received their elementary education in French in Canada (not including French immersion), or ;
  • their children received or are receiving their elementary or secondary education in French in Canada (not including French immersion)

2. CHILDREN WHOSE PARENTS ARE NOT CANADIAN CITIZENS

Section 2.1 of the CSF admissions policy allows for the admission of children with a parent who is an immigrant and who, if they were a Canadian citizen, would have rights under section 23 of the Charter.
